“ABC Suspends Moran After Trump Admin Slams ‘Hater’ Post”

CNN

Veteran ABC News correspondent Terry Moran was suspended Sunday. The move followed a harsh social media post about former President Donald Trump and his deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller.

Moran shared the post on X shortly after midnight. In it, he called both Trump and Miller “world-class haters.”

He claimed Trump uses hatred to serve his own goals. “That’s his spiritual nourishment,” Moran wrote.

In contrast, he described Miller’s hate as personal. “He eats his hate,” Moran added.

Earlier this year, Moran had interviewed Trump in the Oval Office. However, after the tweet drew attention, he deleted it. He did not share any follow-up comments.

By Sunday morning, the Trump administration responded. Officials strongly condemned Moran’s remarks. They also said the post hurt ABC News’s reputation.

As a result, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a public statement. She called on ABC to hold Moran accountable.

“We have reached out to ABC to inquire about how they plan to hold Terry accountable,” she wrote on X.

So far, neither Moran nor ABC has made a public statement.

“Hopefully this journalist will either be suspended or terminated,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during an interview on Sunday Morning Futures on Fox News.

She added that ABC “said they will be taking action.” She seemed to refer to a private conversation.

About an hour later, ABC News announced Moran’s suspension. The network placed Moran on leave. He is their senior national correspondent and former Nightline anchor.

An ABC spokesperson spoke to CNN. The spokesperson said the network values objectivity and impartial reporting. “We do not condone personal attacks,” they said. “The post does not reflect ABC News’ views. It violates our standards. Therefore, we have suspended Terry Moran pending further evaluation.”

Miller Under Fire

Stephen Miller made Trump’s strict immigration policies. Because of this, critics attack him nonstop. For example, Moran called him a “hater.” Also, a 2020 book called Hatemonger showed Miller’s ties to far-right groups. These groups harshly demonize immigrants.

Rare Political Commentary from a Correspondent

It is rare for a top network correspondent like Moran to post sharp political comments. Moreover, he posted late at night on a volatile social media platform. Therefore, this was even more unusual.

Miller’s Response

Miller quickly fired back at Moran. He said, “The most important fact about Terry’s public meltdown is what it shows about the corporate press in America.” Furthermore, he added, “For decades, privileged anchors and reporters have shaped society. They pretended to be journalists. Terry just showed his true colors.”

JD Vance Comes to Miller’s Defense

Vice President JD Vance defended Miller on X. He said Miller acts out of “love of country.” In addition, Vance demanded that ABC “apologize.”
